The Vintage
2008 – winter was very cold and with a lot of snowfalls; in springtime the weather was almost perfect . Starting from early June the weather worsened considerably, with rain almost daily and temperatures of 2-3°C below the seasonal average: these conditions continued until the first ten days of July, which had a negative influence on the flowering of the vines and thus led to marked phenomena of floral abortion and a vegetative delay. In mid-July the weather conditions changed radically upon the arrival of sunshine and a rise in the temperatures to traditional seasonal levels: clear skies and day/night temperatures of 15-18°. In Piedmont these weather conditions continued uninterruptedly up till October, enabling a recovery of the vegetative growth and the continuation of the ripening of the grapes in a gradual and perfect way, helped on by the decidedly low quantity of grapes on the vines. The 2008 Barbera possess all the characteristics of this classic vintage: a dark, inky red, with loads of red fruits, minerals and a touch of graphite on the nose, and a long, rich taste, in which the fruity components and the spicy notes are well balanced by a good acidity. The quality of the vintage is well evident in the length but also round and polished finish of this wine.
